Karega Self Help Group

say no to alcoholKenya has turned into a "drinking nation" despite the efforts of the government to control drinking by introducing Alcoholic Drinks Control Act, 2009 famously known as "Mututho law". We have since witnessed death of over 80 persons due to consumption of sub-standard alcohol in Kenya. Kiambu County was one of the counties who lost largest number in the May 2014 incidence.

MEDF as an Organisation that is dedicated to help small scale farmers to enhance production has taken the responsibility of trying to snatch youth and men who are trapped in alcoholism in Mitahato area. We have launched a project that will specifically target alcoholics in Mitahato and help them establish farming as a part of their income generation activity.

We will also help then seek medical intervention to help fight the alcohol addiction and thus enhance their productivity. One such groups that we have helped establish is the Karega Self Help Group, a group of former drunkards from Mitahato village who have come together under MEDF and formed their organisation.

The group will be meeting every Sunday at the teaching farm to discuss their achievements and the way forward for the group.MEDF will be looking to help in rehabilitation of more groups in the Kiambu locality and the larger Kenyan community as we continue to expand our operations to other parts of the country.
