Skills Training and Value Addition Centres

 Skills Training

Over the past four years, MEDF has been offering specific skills training and on farm demonstration at our Teaching Farm located in mitahato village Githunguri Sub-county. The trainings pulled together stakeholders from agriculture research institutions and input providers who facilitated trainings on animal husbandry, crop production and value addition.
Our partnerships with both government and private organizations enhanced trainings and linkage of our beneficiaries with potential agribusiness opportunities. By the time of the project termination we had trained over 20,000 farmers on crop production and value addition. To expand our reach to more farmers, MEDF has launched a new project www.farmlinkkenya.com which is an extension portal for farmers via the Web, SMS and Social media platforms.

Training in Progress at MEDF

According to the Founder and Executive Director of MEDF, Mr. Irving Newman, the project is aimed to help the youth who do not receive adequate education and cannot find gainful employment. Mr. Newman believes that creating employment opportunities in agriculture for youth who fail to get into formal employment will help reduce social problems such as drug abuse and crime and improve the quality of life for rural communities.

The project has equipped the youth with the skills they need to become successful entrepreneurs and productive members of society. "Self- employed entrepreneurs form the basis of a strong economy and establishes a healthy middle class which in turn drives a country's economy." said Mr. Newman.

In collaboration with the department of agriculture Kiambu county, MEDF has now launched an online extension web portal www.farmlinkkenya.com, where farmers can access up to date, comprehensive and real-time information freely and at the comfort of their gardens.
